There are many reasons why I stand with Scott Rigell People ask me when I wear a Scott Rigell T-Shirt (and when youre as big as I am, its somehow turned into a billboard) people say two things to me. Its either, Love your T-Shirt or, You like him? Yea, I do like him and the reason why is, Scott is one of those unique people that I dont believe Washington, D.C. and all the trappings of power it has to offer couldnt corrupt. Scott Rigell actually DOES return over $100,000 of his congressional pay to the taxpayers. Thats well over HALF of the base compensations and he REFUSES all federal benefits such as healthcare. Could any one of us do such a demanding job, one of the requirements being having second home to in which to live in Washington, D.C. (one of the most expensive places in the U.S. A. and the 20th most expensive city in the WORLD in which to live) and walk away from over $100,000 in pay? What would any of us GIVE to have a health insurance plan like Congress has awarded itself with? But Scott puts it back on that table and says no, thanks. Thats a guy who is 10 feet tall and bulletproof. Many former Congressmen after leaving office use their intimate knowledge of government in general and Congress in particular to start second careers as high-paid lobbyists. Theyd better start liking waiting rooms because thats as far as they get in Rigells Office. He wont even meet with them. What does it say about a sitting member of the United States Congress when he would meet with an everyday nobody like me to hear what my concerns are before hed meet with a former Congressman-turned-Lobbyist representing companies or interests that can almost literally buy and sell everyday people like me wholesale? Id say that if good government is what youre after, Scott Rigell is a man you need to support. I also get a kick out of these environmentalists who claim that Scott Rigell wants to pollute the environment and poison our children! Seriously? Youre sticking with that story? Scott Rigell has a wonderful family with his wife, Teri, daughters Mallory, Lindsey and Shannon along with a son, Justus and two grandchildren. Does anyone expect me to believe that a man like that would do ANYTHING to pollute the environment and poison our children. His kids and their kids will have to live in this world so no, Im not buying that line. The people on the other side of the aisle claim that Scott is Anti-Woman and again, seriously? Youre going to run with that pair of scissors, too? A man lives in a house with a wife a son and THREE daughters and youre telling me that hes anti-women??? Bwahahahahahaha!! No, let me clarify your mind on that; Teri Rigell and her daughters would never ALLOW themselves to BE treated with ANYTHING less than the respect they deserve and a man that doesnt respect women doesnt keep a wife like Teri or raise daughters like that. You can tell a LOT about people by the kids theyve raised and having met each of the Rigell children, well, Ill tell you just like I asked his daughter Lindsey after an RPVB City Committee meeting a few years back, Do you have ANY idea how AWESOME your dad really is? Anyone remember the nightmare over Chinese drywall? Scott Rigell led the charge to stand up for the homeowners affected by that nightmare. Anyone remember those WAVY-10 reports about mold in military housing units? Scott Rigell stood up for those young families and started forcing the government to do right by those folks. I will also tell you that the Veterans who have served our country honorably and faithfully have no bigger fan, cheerleader or advocate than the one they have in Scott Rigell. Scott Rigell should also be admired for offering a hand of friendship and bi-partisan goodwill to the people on the other side of the aisle no matter how many times they bite it. Despite all the shocking, horrific and downright false (We call them lies) things they may say about Scott and the Republican Party, Scott Rigell still continually offers to work WITH anyone who shares the common goal of doing the right thing by the American people-EXACTLY the reason why we sent him there in the first place. Come to think about it, I dont recall ever seeing an ad from his campaign that could even be considered negative and that tells me Scott knows he can stand on his record of ACCOMPLISHMENTS and doesnt NEED to find fault with his opponents. Scott Rigell has committed to serve only 6 terms in Congress which would be 12 years during this season of public service as he calls it. No matter how much you might love a season like spring, fall, summer or winter, you know that it eventually will end. I look towards the end of Scott Rigells Season of Service with the question; Who would replace him? Which leads me to a more important question; Who COULD replace him? I say these things on my Facebook wall, the modern day equivalent of the public square soapbox because I happen to KNOW THESE THINGS TO BE TRUE. In Scott Rigell you have a great Representative and I hope that when this season of service is concluded, I hope it leads to bigger, better things for him. One thing I can say for sure, the Second Congressional District couldnt ask or hope for better representation in Congress. Period, end of discussion.
