There are many things that can only happen in Nigeria. Terrorists give notice before they attack. When they attack, they attack for hours and return safely to their base. They make videos of their attacks and share with the world. We know that schools are now major targets of the terrorists, yet we do nothing to protect the schools. When school children are abducted, it is their parents that go into the bush looking for their abducted children. Some of the girls abducted in Buni Yadi, Yobe State, are still missing. No one is talking about them. We ask the communities affected to report all suspicious activities, even when they report on time, the government take little or no action until it is late. It doesnt require any special training to predict the pattern of operations of the terrorists. They started in Borno, they moved to Yobe, then Adamawa, they are now attacking Bauchi. Many people in Bauchi state reported to the security agencies the existence of some camps and suspicious activities in the bush. What action did the security take?Nothing. In the last 5 days, two local governments were attacked in Bauchi. We all know those who are conducting these attacks. They openly claim responsibility for all their actions. But our leaders use these attacks to blackmail or blame their political opponents. This is the new way of avoiding responsibly and covering their failure to protect the lives and properties of the citizens. This is also the reason why people like Nyako and Metuh will keep coming with many conspiracy theories and people will still believe them. Even though most of their allegations are baseless, crazy and divisive. The sad thing is many Nigerians are falling for this divide and rule tactics that our politicians are using. Just read the stupid comments that people are making online, you will understand that Nigerians have never been so divided. The hatred and ignorance is alarming. I strongly believe that if our government wants to end this violence they know what to do and how to do it. They should stop chasing the shadow and stop playing politics with our collective security. Sadly, there are many people benefiting, politically and financially, from the current insecurity. Until we set aside politics and confront this issue of insecurity as a national security problem, we are not going to see any change. Finally, our politicians must understand that there is direct relationship between their comments and the hatred we see and read among Nigerians. It is this kind of careless statements that set the stage for large scale violence. I pray for peace and security in Nigeria.
