There are many things to be thankful for this Thanksgiving season. But one I am thankful for is the steady progress being made on a dignified resting place for our veterans here in the Pikes Peak region. This is something I have worked hard on since my very first day in Congress. I deeply appreciate the help and dedication that has been offered by so many veterans on the Pikes Peak National Veterans Cemetery Committee. Here is a brand new picture from the site of the forthcoming VA National Cemetery in Colorado Springs. Signage may be a cosmetic to some, but to many others it signifies a long-awaited milestone that officially shows ownership and purpose for what will be a permanent monument and beautiful resting place for Southern Colorado’s veterans. Updated Future Timeline Expectations: 1. Master Planning (Architectural & Engineering) Contract to begin January 2015 and completed by January 2016. 2. FY2016 construction funding would enable ground breaking by Fall of 2016. 3. Cemetery could be ready for early burials by summer of 2017.
