There are many times we make a mistake and we then blame it on a circumstance. For instance a guy may be tired one day, lets say he hasnt been sleeping well and then all of a sudden while he is washing the dishes he drops a dish and then in a furry throws another across the kitchen. Well he can blame lack of sleep as the reason for his rage, but in reality its really deeper than that. Its something deep down within his heart. The lack of sleep only revealed the issue that was within. This can help us understand why God sends us trials. Trials have the unique ability- directed by God, to cause the internal junk that abides in our hearts to come to the surface. Lets say lack of sleep in this case was this guys trial. He didnt know it, but he really harbored anger in his heart. The trial helped reveal that he needs to do something about his anger. Can you imagine if something worse than lack of sleep happened? He might have thrown two dishes, or worse, maybe break something very expensive! Without trials we wouldnt have known at times that we lacked patience, love, kindness, and compassion. This is why James, the Bible writer, could say count it all joy when you fall into trials.(James 1:2) Its an opportnity to bring us closer to God by helping us to see what is currently separating us from Him. The stuff we may have never realized! Sin is that great separator. But God loves us so much He cant stand being apart from us. So what is His solution? He comes gently to us each day revealing His love, and at times... He sends us trials. He does this to develop within us characters that will be appropiate for a peaceful heaven where no thought of sin will ever arise. Its important to mention, that every hardship in life is not to be classified as a trial. And every dark moment in our lives is not to be seen as Gods will. We live in a sinful world with an enemy that seeks to destroy us. Trials are always meant to build us, never destroy us...And I know, I know, trust me I know, trials are tough... but the good news is God has promised that whatever the storm may be He will never let us sink. We will reach the other side. He has promised to be with us at all times. And in our worse times He comes all the nearer. Now thats a God I can worship and adore.
