There are many who believe that we should never compare illnesses, - TopicsExpress

There are many who believe that we should never compare illnesses, and to a certain degree, they’re right. We shouldn’t judge what we don’t know, like depression, for example. I’m not here to make comparisons, but what I will do is defend Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, in that it’s much harder than a number of diseases. You see by the latter stages, you become trapped inside a body that is neither completely paralysed nor fully inept. In my case, you only have one finger remaining. It leaves you with just enough strength for a little more torture. You watch yourself slowly deteriorating as your legs disappear, only to find your limbs going invisible, and your lungs, they can’t even breathe anymore! Eating? Just hope you don’t aspirate. Shitting? Beg for a good day so you won’t have to be a burden to those around you. Imagine spending your entire childhood facing loss every year, desperately scratching to maintain your walk, even though becoming wheelchair bound is imminent, even when you’re too young to understand that trying, however hard, is NOT GOOD ENOUGH. And on top of everything, the seriousness of depression is rendered into nothing more than a symptom of DMD, yet by the time your world is shattered, you don’t even have the physical capacity to put a gun against your own head. Everyone has problems, nobody is perfect, and none of us are above anyone, especially resulting from circumstance. However, to those who complain about the stupidest little things on earth… FML this, FML that… sorry, but you don’t know a RIP about hardship. This is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, something people need to recognize before they whine about everything.
