There are no dictionaries in the IELTS test! When you’re studying don’t rely on the dictionary to tell you the meaning of an unknown word. Try to figure out the meaning through the context – the words surrounding it, and the general meaning of the sentence. If you’re stuck, try to decide if the word has a positive (+) or a negative (-) influence on the sentence. Remember that in IELTS readings, some difficult or technical words have a glossary at the bottom of the passage, so make sure to read that first! Want a longer explanation and some practise?
