There are other problems which have emerged within the last three years concerning the condition of the waters. A former manager of the springs, quietly poured algaecide into the spring for many, many months. People noticed and understood that something destructive was happening to the water as the number of small fish were dwindling as was other wildlife that made the spring their home. The blue fisher birds which circled the edge of the water and fed off the fish fell drastically in number. The algae which gave the water a unique silky character, and which dramatically effected the eco-biology all but disappeared! The sulfur scent weakened to almost nothing! Visitors new to the spring had no way of experiencing the transformation over time, but the people who knew and visited the water regularly for years, became alarmed that Mr. Vaccaro was "doing something to change the water" Recently we discovered proof positive which came out of the notes of the Sarasota County Public Records Office that the rumors of tampering had their basis in truth! If the eco-biology of the water continues to shift due to the diminished flow and/or dilution of the mineral waters, and other influential eco-biological changes; it will ultimately effect not only the healing properties of the water, but the preservation of archaeological artifacts located beneath the surface.
