There are pretty clear pointers that the attacks in the coastal villages around Lamu are in one way or the other politically groomed. A single police officer on duty or 3, 4, even 10 uncoordinated may not be able to thwart/repel an ambush! This coordination at night and in close quarter skirmishes cannot be achieved without a central communication system that connects all officers! Numbers, Mobility and timely reinforcements are extremely necessary. The firing of police officers at a post is not the solution; it needs a tactical solution. Meanwhile; a political solution to address the plight of the coastal youth groups is the foundation to a lasting peace. Cleric shootings, rounding up people at places of worship and the use of force against the protesters is not a long term solution; it lasts only while bullets last in the air! Employment opportunities for the native youth, land allocations, Mature political discussions and teamwork will work! Finally; Kenyans need to take the mutual responsibility of denouncing tribal skirmishes; it will serve no one.
