There are protest marches called Pegida (Patriotic Europeans against the Islamization of Western Europe) being held in Germany these days. Unsettling. It looks as though these demonstrations are at their core islamophobic or even xenophobic, though most people who take part in them seem to be not all-out neo-nazis, but just ordinary folks who are venting some of their frustrations. My question is: we, the Germans, displayed such pride when our team won the 2014 World Cup. That was soccer. Now why dont we show some pride in our tolerance, in our rule of law and in our democratic values - by welcoming foreigners to become part of our society? I for one, do not wish to live in a country made up only of Germans.
