There are quite a few things about the PACE trial that Puzzles me. I know that people in the trial suffered from chronic tiredness secondary to depression ,somatoform disorders anxiety and so forth.Indeed there were also patients in the study whose tiredness was of an unknown cause.I also know that the criteria used by the authors excludes anyone with neurological signs or symptoms so there were no people with Myalgic encephalomyelitis in the study. Given all that why were the results so terrible? When the results were looked at scientifically there was no benefit of any kind with CBT and no clinically significant benefit with GET.Does that mean that CBT and GET are no use at all even for people with depression or any of the psychological conditions the majority of these patients suffered from? The other thing that puzzles me is how the peer reviewers of the Lancet allowed a study to be published when 25% of the GET data was withheld and it was clear that the data that was published could not be extrapolated into the general population. There are a few minor things that also bother me.For instance why did they use a fatigue scale which was incapable of recording anyone whose fatigue was made worse by the treatment? Finally ,given that PACE had an unscientifc arm and a scientific arm, why are the british media selling the results of the unscientific arm and totally ignoring the results of the scientific arm which clearly demonstrates that both CBT and GET were totally useless as treatments even for people with chronic tiredness
