There are quite some irony for having a mother who is also a teacher by profession. To mention a few: She would not review with us our lessons for upcoming exams, nor help us finish our assignments because she had to prepare our dinner then later on write her lesson plans and prepare her teaching materials every night and at the same time make it sure to wake-up early the next day to run some busy errands for their school canteen. She would not attend any of the PTA (parents-teachers association) meetings because she had to facilitate a same gathering in their school and be answerable to the parents on how their kids fare in her class. When we were to compete for an extra-curricular event to represent our school, she would not spend even a minute to check-out how we rehearsed a piece or at least say something about our performance because she had to save her time & energy and focus more on improving on her schools delegations. (Take note, weve even became competitors in one interschool event wherein I got defeated by her coached pupil. Yes.) She would not even accompany us on all our field trips because she also had to leave for the weekend to attend important school events or some trainings/seminars. She would only let us eat the breakfast leftovers as our lunch for the same day but shed be more mindful of cooking really good-tasting but cheaper meals (must be nutritious also as per DECS and DOH) for her pupils. Without knowing how so much effort she had already exerted to her job, she even had dreamt of improving her craft by having a Masters Degree in teaching. However, Id say she actually does not need one. These things might make you think that we, her own kids, were only second to her priority: her pupils. I am not complaining. In fact, I am very lucky and proud to say that I became a witness to how she was able to share her greatness, even through her smallest but selfless acts of passion as a public school teacher to her former pupils from Boot, Natatas and Janopol Oriental Elementary Schools, whom were not related at all to her, but treated them as her own sons and daughters. With this, I salute and thank you, my first and forever will be my teacher in life: my Mame, a.k.a. Mrs./Maam Zosima Vivas Andaya (even if I sometimes fail to listen to you) and to all our Teachers out there for having molded the great minds of today and tomorrow. Consider this please as a small tribute to all of you.. Happy World Teachers Day!!!
