There are so many Active Self Protection lessons in this. Unfortunately I dont have a lot of details on the actual incident (bonus points to the ASPer whose Google Fu is strong enough to find the details!), but what is caught on video is enough to give us some significant lessons in how armed home invasions go and how to successfully defend against them. Would you be ready? Lessons: 1. The attackers decide when and where the conflict starts, and they always attack with speed and surprise. These guys look like they were cruising the neighborhood looking for targets of opportunity and found one. They dont announce themselves until they are on top of their intended victims. Situations come at you lightning fast and you need to be ready to go from 0 to go time in a flash. 2. Here we see the lessons of sheep, wolves, and shepherds brought to wonderful light: goo.gl/fEipr8 3. Notice that the good guy is in his tighty whities. (tighty blueys?) He had perhaps 10 seconds to hear screams and respond. You better have your force multiplication tools ready to go! And when the time comes to defend your family, you wont have time to get properly dressed or socially acceptable. Youve gotta go with what you got. 4. Notice how much movement there was. The good guy isnt ideal. Hes not built like an Adonis. (hes in shape...round is a shape!) He doesnt have a Chris Costa approved iso stance or a tricked out defensive rifle. Hes got a shepherds heart, a handgun, and the physical tools he has trained and earned. And it was enough this day. My hat is off to him! 5. If you have a gate on your house, USE IT! Attitude. Skills. Plan.
