There are so many native trees and shrubs here in northern Indiana, and I cant identify very many of them. Two books, pictured here, are a great help to me in identification. Yesterday I saw wild plums near the parking lot at River Preserve Co. Park at Benton. There are two species of wild plum in Elkhart Co.; after consulting the tree guide by Jackson, I would say this one is American Wild Plum (Prunus americana) Below the spillway I found a huge grape vine that had fallen to the ground when the basswood tree it was on broke off; there were no fruits, but from the leaves I would say it is Summer Grape (Vitis aestivalis) There are several species of wild grapes in Elkhart County. Im still trying to figure them out; the Shrubs and Woody Vines book by Weeks is a big help
