There are some amazing activists and organizers out there. But many of their notions of Black are so narrow, instead of riding hard with Black and Brown solidarity just by saying Black and Brown, they are losing amazing opportunities to truly bring many of us together. Yes language matters! Many of us who are mischaracterized solely as Latino y Latina are fully aware that we are racially Black and identify as such. But there are too many people with narrow nationalistic ways of seeing and articulating Blackness that some do not see the global implications and possibilities that can happen if they would stop leaving us out of racial discourses and practices, especially as it relates to the growing Afro-Latino y Latina demographic. I just dont get it. Because we got it a long time ago at SUNY Albany as students and that was in the early 90s.
