There are some so-called Islam-experts who keep using theocracy - TopicsExpress

There are some so-called Islam-experts who keep using theocracy and Sharia interchangeably. They think that Sharia means theocracy or that they are synonymous. There is nothing that could be farther from the truth. Theocracy is to rule in the name of God. Its when the ruler thinks that hes acting on behalf of God. This concept is totally foreign to Islam. Although a Muslim ruler (if he were to exist) is supposed to rule by what he thinks is pleasing to God, he cant say that he represents God in any way, shape, or form. In fact, there a number of evidence to this from the words of the Prophet and His Companions. In an authentic narration, the Prophet feared that there will come a time when a ruler will say, Whoever obeys me then he has obeyed God, and whoever disobeys me then he has disobeyed God. This in essence is theocracy and the Prophet feared that we arrive to that state. When the first Caliph was inaugurated, right after the death of Prophet Muhammad AS, he said, You obey me as long as you think I obey God in taking care of you. But as soon as I deviate, I expect that you straighten me up. Does this sound like theocracy to you. The fact that other religions have fallen into this mistake in the past or that some current Muslim governments act in a theocratic way is NOT the fault of Sharia. If anything, its their misunderstanding or misinterpretation of #Sharia
