There are three persons in the group. One is a former journalist, and they have that training and education as well as a great deal of research and writing experience. Another has a B.A. in English Literature and taught a college writing course, and knows very well about grammar, spelling, and punctuation, too. The last member of the group taught high school Television Production courses after her stellar career (NATAS recognition) as a camera operator and video editor for major news networks. All three are screenwriters, too, and all three visited screenwriting websites to join the ranks. In doing so, they noticed a lot of chatter about "getting past the reader," and in reviewing many of the screenplays, they noticed a great deal of spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors. For persons who read a lot, who read often, and read well, such poor representations of writing trip up the expert reader and slow them down. scriptmag/features/craft-features/what-you-must-know-about-script-format When the group saw the number of screenplays in need of simple proofreading, they saw a niche they could fulfill without getting into subjective or color editing. Although the group does offer higher levels of editing services, and their backgrounds and training may qualify them to offer it, they believe that arena is deservedly reserved primarily for produced screenwriters who offer such services, and who earn high fees for doing so because they are experienced and produced screenwriters, and thus have better authority to "say so." This group saw a need, and seeks to fulfill that need, for proofreading screenplays before their being sent off to contests, competitions, and websites so that the works may have their best possible presentation.
