There are three sources of origin for the vision and philosophy of my proposed school reform for learning communities, its methodology and the group of activity systems that put them into practice. First, it is my personal experience of failures and partial successes during my 28-year efforts at school reform. Since I became a professor at university, I have been engaged in the challenge to reform schools from the inside by visiting schools throughout the country twice a week, observing classrooms and working with teachers. I have visited over the years almost 2,000 kindergartens, elementary schools, junior and senior high schools and schools for the handicapped, which resulted in over 10,000 case studies of classroom practices.
