There are three things that you should know about this Saturday’s Special JA Oldies Weekend edition of the Bashment on Ashland. For one, this will be the first (and only) time we will ever schedule for the same night as Windy City Soul Club. Second, if you haven’t been to the Bashment before, let me warn you. We are shamelessly promiscuous Reggae whores. We interpret the limits of the genre quite liberally. We really will play anything. Want me to play this instrumental B-side from my Boogaloo box? Just ask. Do you fancy that you can stump Bryan Martin with a request for a Lovers Rock rarity that you last heard when you were living in the UK some 30 years ago? Hit him with your best shot. Do you think that Darren Reggae wouldn’t sink to playing an entire set of nothing but Judge Dread records? Think again, my friend. Lastly, in what has become a bit of a tradition at A.J. Hudson’s, we are combining forces with Fredopalooza. Yes indeed, we will be celebrating the birthday of our friend Al Ti Ger. So get there early. If you buy the Birthday Boy a drink, he might even agree to dance with you. Just don’t ask him to dance the Lambada. It is forbidden.
