There are times that make one stop and take a break from the cares - TopicsExpress

There are times that make one stop and take a break from the cares of this life to focus on what is truly important in this life. This week has been one of those times with the most likely tragic death of Adam Smelser. All I have really been able to think about this week, and all I have wanted to focus on this week, is the precious things in life: my wife and my own children, my family, my friends, my brethren in Christ. Tragedies like this make you see what really matters and what is really important. It shows us how precious and fragile our lives are. One day it seems as if we will live to a ripe old age and the next day the reality of death is at our front door. Adam was only 25 years old. My age. Just another day doing what he enjoys. My heart is breaking for him and for his family and friends. He is a role model to me. Not that I knew him personally, but seeing all the pictures and hearing all of the stories of his life and godliness, he is definitely one I want to imitate in my life because he imitated Christ. This time reminds me of the things that are not as important as we may think: money, entertainment, fame, my selfish desires, disagreements, frustrations, THIS WORLD. The only thing that truly matters is serving God and being anxious for our HEAVENLY HOME. In this dark and sorrowful hour for Adam, there is light, beauty, and hope. Although we mourn his tragic death, we rejoice knowing that he is a child of God and served Christ diligently while on this earth. We know there is a place of rest and comfort once we leave this world. Death is only the doorway to experiencing eternal happiness. It is only the beginning of experiencing that which weve never imagined. And so, I pray that we will learn from this time to give our lives fully to God and not sweat the things that are really not important, that are only temporary. I hate Satan. Satan is stupid and I cannot wait until he rots in hell. That is a comfort has well, knowing that while Satan may win a great many battles on this earth, he will ultimately LOSE the war. To all my family, I love you. To all my brethren, I love you. To those lost in sin, I love you and hope and pray you will take time to consider where you will spend eternity. The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is NOT IN VAIN. - 1 Corinthians 15:56-58
