There are two articles that are a must read for any type of relationships. Barriers to Effective Communication and How to Argue Fairly The are both covered by copy laws or I would post them. There are a lot of articles. They are mostly the same. I disagree when the statement about arguing, stay in the present. At sometime old hurts have to be dealt with. One layer at a time. Also in the rules for arguing, timeout is suggested. But there must be boundaries. In a Domestic Violence class, the instructor was also a counselor, in his group there was a couple took a timeout after arguing. The husband reported to the counselor that after the timeout things were worse. The husband had gone a bar with a friend that could not stand his wife. So set a place for a timeout before you start talking.
