There are two gifts we should give our children. The one is roots. The other is wings.~Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Excited, excited, excited!!! I drove to the park this morning hoping and praying Id be able to find Hawkeyes and Houlihans (my new name for his betroved) nest. Lo and behold as I drove into the park I see Hawkeye up in a tree to my left. I park and get out of the truck sipping my coffee and eyeing him because I knew this wasnt his nest tree. Sure enough, before I could reach to grab my camera Hawkeye swoops down in front of me long twig in talons and heads back up into the canopy of trees. I thought, Im gonna lose him again as Im running spilling my coffee after him. But delightfully he landed in a tree in clear view. And there it was, THE NEST. He fumbled very briefly around the nest and waited for me to run back to the truck to grab the camera, sprint back, and snap a few photos before he traipsed off to gosh knows where. Bottom line, I know where the nest is and its in a brilliant spot. But it is at the tippy toes of reach for my lens so Ive got to figure out how to get a better telephoto thats more portable. For now, I will need to break out the Sherpa lens and do my best to get what images I can. This is all going to unfold before me and Im like a giddy grandparent. Im going to start knitting little baby Hawkeye sweaters, learn lullabys, and participating in Lamaze classes although bringing Houlihan may cause problems with those other pregnant humans. I am ecstatic beyond words and to top it off, as I left the park heading to work cozy in thoughts of grandparentdom, Mr. Eagle soars silently over my car down 17-92...talk about feeling truly connected. Ooops, forgot to keep my post legal, Hawkeye is a Red shouldered Hawk.
