There are two key components for this forecast that could easily alter our snowfall amounts. I want to break this down so youre aware of some changes that may come in the forecast as the storm progresses. We are now in the nowcasting phase of this storm. That means were adjusting the forecast as we get more information. 1. The rain/snow line. Temperatures are above freezing - whats going to make snow stick right now is the intensity of the snow. Light snow wont stick and accumulate because it will have time to melt before the next flakes come down. In heavy snow, that melting time is gone and it will accumulate. Once temperatures are below freezing, well have accumulation and slick conditions. Were still going to have a rain and snow line though, especially through York county. 2. The western fringe. How far west this storm penetrates is going to be another big factor for accumulation amounts. I have a hard stop for accumulations over 2 from about Rangeley, to Rumford, Gray, Portland. If that moves farther north and west, these amounts will be increased. The 2-4 marker may have to be increased as well if thats the case. Hence, we are in the nowcasting phase. Were looking at observations every hour and making tweaks to the forecast. This is a VERY complex one to forecast, as many early season snows are. I think weve prepped you well for the storm so just stayed tuned to my facebook page for the latest information. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask below!
