There are two villainous groups here: the protesters - referred to in the article as militants, and the media. I have not talked about the case because I was waiting for information on the underlying shooting. It is a sad reality that I cannot say that I know precisely what happened. Given the significance of the case, there should be clear, articulate materials on the matter. I like to think that most everyone agrees that the media has a unique role and duty to present knowable facts in a format that people can make sense of. This is one of those times. I dont think this is merely a failure either, some kind of oversight or confusion. The facts are knowable and, I believe, known. The media CHOOSES to not make it available in a format usable to the public. I struggle with the why. I considered all kinds of complicated scenarios but I am left with the simple, brutal reality that mayhem sells. Oh, it isnt all about money - street journalists, the kind of vermin who large media outlets rely on to get on the scene interviews, make pitifully small amounts of money. There is a vain, prideful dynamic of the man reveling in horror too. We all have this impulse of course. It is part of our essential makeup. I suspect it is what drives me to watch horror flicks. Real life horror allows the classless media to explore this dark side of humanity without consequence. Which leads me to the second group of villains: the protesters. I like the representation of the protesters as militants in the article. We increasingly see this pop up and I see it is the same phenomenon, and coming from the same base human inclination, as is presented by Islamic militants: to take advantage of chaos in order to act on their devilish tendencies. What defines a man is not what he does when there are consequences but what he does when there are NOT consequences. The protesters as militants or, perhaps more accurately, militants as protesters are merely opportunists. They know the police are hamstrung in their response and, so, the consequences are minimal, at least here in the West. For some, their devilish opportunism expresses itself in mere theft, the looting tourism mentioned by the police spokesman. For some, the opportunity to hurt others without consequence is attractive. Though there will be no follow-up story when this dies down, I have no doubt that minimal effort would uncover premeditated murder, rape, and revenge assault done under cover of mayhem. Both the media and these militants as protesters are merely villains, base, devilish villains.
