There are two ways of creating a song...1] composing a song which is all ready written and 2] write a song on a composition.Both ways are popular and giving good result. Composing a song / lyric / poem is popular in light music activity. Here, composer selects a song of choice and compose. Composer enjoys the liberty of selection. It can be a Geet, Gazal, Bhajan, Garabaa as per choice. Composer will select as per his / her choice , depending upon liking / understanding of the poetry. He/ She is required to know the words and meaning. That is minimum ! At times , they are required to compose on some ones demand also. Here, a song is selected by some one and composer is asked / requested to compose as per the demand / requirement. In such cases, composer is free to accept or deny...but if not, the creation will be not fully his / her choice.But, here also , composer requires to understand the meaning and give justice to express through music. The other way is where a poet / lyricist is asked / requested to write on the tune. Here , the composition is ready and words are placed on it, as per it. This is also a difficult process, because the words shall follow the " mood " of the composition , where as in earlier case, tune has to follow the " mood " of the words . Here, the writer requires " to smell the mood " by the tune..tune is a guide for him..understanding music also helps. Way number [1] provides enough time and space for both, the writer and the composer...as it is as per their choice and freedom. Way number [2]... no room for such luxury. Here a composer works as per the demand of the situation of the song and the writer follows it. It requires a great amount of discipline .It is not " ready to wear " or " made as per order " cloths. ..because both the artists are dealing with WORDS and MUSIC to CREATE a song. A good long lasting song is created ONLY by the full understanding of the way you choose.
