There arent words to express how deeply grateful I am to the Americans who answered a call to defend a country they never knew and a people they never met. (Korean War Memorial) Without your sacrifices, I would not be here. I can only hope to ever live up to some small fraction of the honor... Lets enjoy our BBQs and pool parties and savor this long weekend. While doing so, lets please remember that this is Memorial Day weekend - its when we honor our warriors whove made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms while securing, defending, and protecting our way of life... Sometimes, even, securing freedom for those less fortunate. Maybe dont thank a veteran this weekend because its not Veterans Day (thats in November 11/11) but tell a vet that you honor your freedoms, secured for you and your loved ones by those brothers, sisters, and their families who made the ultimate sacrifice. The names and mentions of our fallen tend to recede with time and I think the heart and mind conspire to do this so that we may carry on in our day to day lives. Even so, theres always a deep undercurrent of life where the ones we lost are ever-present with us. This weekend, we honor and bring to the forefront of every moment, the memories of our fallen brothers and sisters and those who came before us and secured our freedoms and way of life. However complex and confusing it can be at times, it is a beautiful country and we are so very fortunate to be Americans. Freedom is not free. I will never forget.
