There arrives Muharram and you see a debate of To wish or not to - TopicsExpress

There arrives Muharram and you see a debate of To wish or not to wish Islamic New Year arise again. I personally dont wish anyone New Year on Islamic New Year, , but I feel that we should move towards an attitude which is more tolerant than apologetic. If anyone wishes New Year the intention is to celebrate a new year, not the martyrdom of Imam Hussain so it should not be taken as offense. Yes if any one deliberately celebrates the martyrdom out of vengeance it should be considered an offense. Moreover, Sunnis also consider 1st Muharram as the day of Martyrdom of Caliph Omar, but many still wish new year, again not with the intention of celebrating martyrdom. I think we need to rise above these issues, and be realistic and practical.... The same applies to those conservative Muslims who say they must not wish Merry Christmas. .... When Moharram coincides with Diwali, or Christmas are people asked not to celebrate Diwali or Christmas? And the same should be totally acceptable without offense when those observing Muharram do not wish others Birthday or Diwali or Christmas if it coincides. My mother never wished me and my siblings Birthday, the year it fell in Muharram in last 2 years. Let to each one be their beliefs, and not be offended by others.
