There has been a lot of debate about whether or not the US Navy - TopicsExpress

There has been a lot of debate about whether or not the US Navy SEAL who shot Usama bin Laden should go ahead with his interview on Fox News. As a military history buff since childhood, especially regarding special ops, yes, Id love to know every single detail of what transpired that night on May 2, 2011. BUT, the question is: should he? I had a Top Secret security clearance in the USAF which required that I literally had to sign my life away - the document is a Non-Disclosure Agreement which stays in effect for 79 years, during which time all verbal and written forms of communication must be cleared through a special Pentagon security office. Violations of this agreement bring severe penalties both in terms of prison sentences and financial. From what Ive read, SEAL Team 6/DEVGRU members hold similar security clearances and sign similar agreements. The key phrase is: must be cleared with the security office. Failure to do so is a violation of the agreement. Add to that the necessity of maintaining Operational Security (OPSEC) to keep current special operators and operations safe, you begin to see the problem. Lastly, theres the common sense factor: like not putting yourself, your family, or your friends in harms way. If he goes ahead with the interview you can bet the Islamic extremists both here and abroad will sit up and take notice. Imagine the headlines: Islamic extremists kill Navy SEAL who killed UBL. Enough said.
