There has been some chatter recently about the possibility that, one day, automation will make all human work obsolete and that we will all, eventually, be left unemployed. What that assumption fails to take into consideration is that, in all cases through history, what automation has allowed humans to do is operate on grander scales than ever before, dream bigger, accomplish more. That out-scaling of human desire and activity is always accomplished through a human-machine partnership. Legal issues aside, the interesting thing about this article is that it -- rightfully -- calls out the tremendous economic opportunities waiting for all of us as we continue to scale up, and out, and onward. Make no mistake, mining asteroids for minerals, comets for water, eventually terraforming the other worlds around us will take TREMENDOUS effort on the part of humans who will be leveraging their machines like never before. This is precisely why we humans will never BE ABLE to put ourselves out of work. Our dreams will simply continue to expand to fill our capabilities!
