There has been some horrific news in the BJJ community recently. Im also hearing all kinds of sad stories about academies struggling and going under. Even further depressing are the stories I hear from former students of other academies where the self proclaimed masters demand respect and worship. Stories about getting beat up for disagreeing or questioning something. How in the hell does this happen? This is a disgusting representation of BJJ! Ive owned Boston BJJ Nashua/Team Triumph for 7 years. Im in charge, I make the tough decisions but its not my academy. It belongs to every one of our students/teammates! This has been bothering me all day. I just sat and watched training tonight. We had a couple black belts, hand full of browns, a dozen purples and a few dozen blues and whites on the mats today. Different ages and gender. A wide spectrum of occupations and personalities. There was something in common though. Everyone enjoyed being there and there was endless mutual respect. I am very grateful for what we have. Most of all, I am thankful that I had a good BJJ upbringing!
