There hasnt been any fanfare about this (I guess since most of the cast is now deceased) but January 18th was the 40th anniversary of The Jeffersons first episode debuting on CBS as a spinoff of the popular sitcom All In The Family and the show lasted 10 years. Its cancellation was also without much acknowledment. CBS simply cancelled the show after its 10th season ended and most of the cast found out by reading it in the newspaper like anyone else. Unlike many shows today where you have a final episode and some closure. The Jeffersons simply went away only to live on through reruns. There were some attempts at a reunion and one of them was a Jeffersons Reunion theater tour in the early 1990s featuring the original cast. I bought tickets for their Miami date. ( my first time using Ticketmaster) but the tour was cancelled and the reason was for lack of interest or poor ticket sales. But some say in reality it was because one of its cast members was sick. And a couple years later, actress Roxie Roker died of cancer at age 66. Cast deaths went as follows. Zara Cully (Mother Jefferson) in 1978 Roxie Roker (Helen Willis) in 1995 Isabel Sanford (Louise Jefferson) in 2004 Franklin Cover (Tom Willis) in 2006 Mike Evans (original Lionel Jefferson) in 2006 Paul Benedict (Harry Bentley) in 2008 Sherman Hemsley (George Jefferson) in 2012 and Ned Wertimer (Ralph the doorman) in 2013 Only the second Lionel (Damon Evans, no relation to Mike Evans) Jenny Jefferson (Berlinda Tolbert) and Florence The maid (Marla Gibbs) are still alive. They range in age today from 65 to 84.
