To accommodate such a huge population , India is the seventh largest country in the world, and covers a total area of 3,287,263 km² . 3. Language : Hindi and English are the official languages of India. National Lanuage is Hindi .The government also recognizes 17 other languages (Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Nepali, Manipuri, , Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Konkani, Kannada, Kashmiri, Malayalam, Marathi and Urdu). Apart from these languages, about 1,652 dialects are spoken in the country. 4. Indian Railways : Indian Railways has one of the largest and busiest rail networks in the world . The Indian Railways not just runs the world’s fourth largest railroad network but is also among the largest employers. Operates the fourth largest railroad network in the world over 63,974 route-km. Runs as many as 19,000 trains every day. 5. Roads : The world’s largest road network is in India— over 1.9 million miles of roads cover the country. 6. Wonder : The Taj Mahal is considered as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife. Except this the Seven Wonders of India are : Golden Temple (Amritsar) , Gomateshwara (Karnataka ), Hampi (Karnataka ), Konark Sun Temple (Orissa ), Nalanda (Bihar), Khajuraho (Madhya Pradesh) . 7. Mosques : India has the most number of mosques. It has 300,000 mosques which is much more than the Muslim world. 8. Invention Mathematics : Chess was invented in India and was called as Chaturanga . Algebra, Trigonometry and Calculus are originated in India. The ‘Place Value System’ and the ‘Decimal System’ were developed in India in 100 B.C. 9. Medical advances: Surgeries were done in India over 2,600 years ago by Sushruta. He also developed Ayurveda and made records of several complicated surgeries and operations . 10. Name : The official Sanskrit name for India is Bharat Ganarajya. Even today, it is often called Bharat by young and old. 11. Borders: India shares its land borders with Pakistan, Nepal , Bhutan, Burma ,China, and Bangladesh. Sri Lanka and the Maldives are neighboring ocean countries. 12.
