There is a Halloween how-to makeup Youtube video making the rounds at the moment (and no, Im not providing a link because theres advertising on it, which means somebody makes money when you click on it). Ive generally found that anybody who puts celebrity makeup artist in front of their name is generally suspect, but anybody who suggests using off-the-shelf contact lenses for a Halloween makeup shows an almost total lack of understanding of makeup FX. This is becoming a huge problem is todays age of social media, where self-taught makeup artists (I hesitate to use the word guru, which actually has no place in this discussion) will set up their own Youtube channels, which are then followed by thousands of kids who want to become makeup artists. Those makeup bloggers then show up at an IMATS for example, where they are surrounded by those kids, who dont understand the artists in question are mostly posers and pretenders, who for the most part have little or no formal makeup training. There used to be a saying Those who cant do, teach, but I think there should be an additional saying, Those who cant teach get a Youtube channel.
