There is a common misconception among personal trainers that the objective of training is to beast your client. Dont get me wrong, I am all for working hard in the gym and my clients would attest to this. What I am not supportive of is trying to smash your client into the ground just for the sake of it. It is common to see personal trainers not even recording workout notes and simply making something up on the spot. If you want to push a client hard, take them to failure on back squats and then make them perform multiple drop sets. You could make them sick within minutes of starting a workout. Hard? Incredibly. Best for their goals? Probably not. Anyone can put their client through a brutal session but what is the point of a brutal session if it is just for the sake of it? It takes a lot more skill to create a progressive, periodised programme which yields long term results.
