There is a cultural sentiment that life is disposable. Mental illness has little to do with it. If you think someone across the street is talking about you... 1) maybe they really are, or 2) maybe they are not and you are psychotic Both person 1&2 have been known to cross the street and beat the other up... Or not. Violent disposition is not requisite of psychosis or mood disorder. Blaming violence on mental illness addresses the problem only indirectly. Most ALL psychotic people i know are nonviolent. MOST all sane people I know are nonviolent. MOST violent crimes are committed by sane, angry, self-centered people without value for life. Where do you think they get that from? What ideology? Blaming mental illness: 1) unfairly stigmatizes mentally ill patients 2) gives sane violent people a victim card by being over diagnosed as bipolar. They arent. But now they got an excuse.
