There is a day every year in my home town that people simply get - TopicsExpress

There is a day every year in my home town that people simply get up and start walking towards the same place. I remember going with my grandfather, my father, my friend, myself. Long before tweets and social media people would simply drop what they were doing to go and stand in silence. Not long ago a new tradition began. There was no planning, it simply happened and now a blanket of red poppies shrouds the tomb of the unknown soldier on that same day every year. There are few moments that bring us together regardless of where we stand on whichever issue wherever we are in the world, but on the 11th day of the 11th month, at the 11th minute of the 11th hour we are all Canadian. We share this moment with many peoples and many nations who have watched along with us as the recent... events? ... have unfolded. So as fewer and fewer remain to march past in honour let us be many more this year who take the time to stop and remember and honour, talk to your kids, your friends, go to that place of honour nearest you. Fill the streets of our nations capital with another image, our undaunted presence. Or just take that minute and be. Canadian.
