There is a disturbing pattern in America of home invasion robberies and assaults in the last decade or so partially to blame are the courts in the land who have forced homeowners to retreat in response to an intrusion on their property when exactly the opposite should be the case. A lawful home owner should feel totally secure on their property and within their rights to defend themselves on same, those rights should not be dependent on retreat and flight for that is a reversal of self defense doctrine going back to the time of serfs on feudal lands in England. The courts need to begin accepting the "castle doctrine" and extend it to the external property to support self defense and begin minimizing these illegal intrusions.
