There is a funny thing going on in our culture right now, and I - TopicsExpress

There is a funny thing going on in our culture right now, and I must admit that Ive been guilty of it too. Its this incredible urge of people trying to push or persuade everyone to be and act the same. We live in a country with some of the greatest freedoms on Gods green Earth, but we ridicule and attempt to change those who express and exercise those freedoms in an effort to be true to themselves. None more evident than in the field of sports. Be it Johnny Manziel and Rob Gronkowski going to Vegas (during the off season) and not carrying themselves like Peyton Manning and Tony Gonzalez, Lance Stephenson being Lance Stephenson, Lebron not following the Jordan Rules of how to be an Alpha Dog, and Russell Westbrook and Dwyane Wade dressing the way they dress (I wouldnt be caught dead wearing the clothes they wear, but thats their choice, not mine). Why do they/we all have to act, and be, and look the same? What message are we sending our youth when we tell them that there is only one way to act, or dress, or be in order to find success or acceptance within our society? Success or Failure, I can respect someone who does things their own way, while being true to themselves, and then lives with the results; as opposed to someone who finds success or acceptance emulating another. There is no worse form of success or acceptance than finding it while pretending to be something other than yourself, and subsequently having your true self held hostage for fear of losing what you fraudulently acquired. Maya Angelou once said If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be. #FitInOrStandOut
