There is a good German saying applicable to our times: He whose bread I eat, his song I sing. This is what our honorable legislators have been practising especially in recent times. Because of all the DOUGH coming from Malacanang in the form of the timely PDAF (primarily through the SAROs from DBM in the middle of the trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona) and DAP (unused executive branch savings lavished on the senators in addition to their PDAF) majority of them sang the Palaces song and convicted CJ Corona in that sordid Trial of the Century. This despite the fact that Coronas alleged offense was not ground for impeachment, unlike the High Crimes specified in the Constitution. In fact, as Civil Service Commission Chair Francisco Duque stressed during that impeachment trial, inaccuracy in ones SALN may be rectified within a given time frame. But the prospect of millions in bribe blurred the solons moral vision---reports say that at least P100 million went to each of the convicting senators from DAP. It was a conviction financed by much-abused public funds. Sad, very sad.
