There is a huge challenge in Nigeria. Any nation where the truth cannot be told and where sycophancy has been elevated to norm cannot experience accelerated development. I was in Abia State for three days (24th- 26th September, 2014). Throughout the period, almost everyone that I discussed with in private was very critical of the governor, Chief T. A. Orji. But at public gatherings, there is unlimited encomiums poured on him as the Ochendo Global-Ikuku Oma (meaning the sweet breeze) of Abia state. There is even a group known by the name that attends public gatherings to sing his praises. The man may not even know the true feelings of the people for him. Is it in our educational system that do not train people with critical minds that can stand on their principles? Or is it poverty? Or is it stomach infrastructure? Or is it just fear?
