There is a lot of room in media for journalists who are highly credulous about scientific claims. If a scientist claims something ridiculous, that has currency. You can quote that and write about it and sell the piece and drive clicks and revenue. Discrediting bullshit has a cost. You have to spend time doing interviews, reading papers, describing arguments. And for what? To produce an article that pees on the readers parade. That doesnt drive traffic to a website. Credulous fawning over any sort of scientific claim makes money.
