There is a lot of subtext going on in this picture. Notice they are holding hands. In the Middle East, especially in Arabian peninsula countries, you will see men holding hands. Usually though, men who are good friends will lock pinkies. When a man holds anothers hand, it is a sign of respect. But more so, when a man of authority takes your left hand, it is not just a sign of respect, but also a sign of submission. Submission folks! This simple gesture means that King Abdullah was submitting himself and, by association, the entire country of Saudi Arabia to President Bush and the entire United States of America. By contrast, President Obama bowed low to King Abdullah showing obeisance to King Abdullah, which is a sign of submission to the Saudis and, by association, all of the United States was in one simple act (in Saudi eyes) placed under the submission of King Abdullah. In case you are wondering why people got all bent out of shape because of Obamas bowing.
