There is a message to this Owen Deutsch image, which is certainly one of the more remarkable bird photos of recent years. Most birds, like this Bald Eagle, dont like visitors near their nests in the springtime. So, whenever possible this Spring, avoid nesting birds. Dont cause them to burn precious reserves of energy to protect their nests. From Owen Deutsch, about this picture: “I spotted this oblivious great blue heron flying in the direction of a bald eagle’s nest. I pointed my camera at the heron and within seconds, the eagle appeared taking off after the GBH and a wild chase ensued. As you can see from the picture, the eagle could have easily destroyed the GBH, but apparently thought it not worth taking the risk of getting injured.All I had hoped for that early morning on my friend’s flat bottom fishing boat on Fox Lake just north of Chicago was a shot taken from a respectful distance of the nesting eagles. But I got much more. It was a happy ending for everyone. The eagle accomplished its goal of scaring off the heron, the heron survived and I got the shot of a lifetime.”
