There is a move on St. George Island to incorporate the island into a city. A group of island residents, calling themselves the St. George Island Growth Management Committee, has been investigating the possibility of incorporation for St. George Island. They’ve scheduled workshops throughout November to present their findings. The workshops will address the pros and cons of incorporation, as well as the Florida requirements for incorporation. It will also discuss the type of government the Island could have and who would run it, plus a possible timeline for a possible incorporation effort. Two workshops will be held at the Jay Abbott Fire House, one Tuesday November 11th at 5:30 and the other on Tuesday December 2nd at 5:30. Two more will be held at the Plantation Clubhouse on Monday November 17th at 4:00 and Tuesday December 9th at 4:00. Residents are encouraged to come and bring their questions and comments.
