There is a new documentary coming out asking whether college is worth it. They talk about all the problems and blame is put on the system. I think consumers are a big part of the problem. If they didnt so willingly take out large loans for something that was supposed to guarantee them a job, we wouldnt be in this predicament. At one time a college degree wasnt that common. Now with so many people taking the automatic course of high school to college, you have suppy and demand issues. Regardless of how many college graduates there are, jobs are limited. As a society, we seem to have a gold rush mentality until there gets to be a point where there are more minors than gold. We need to bring manufacturing back to the US, so that good jobs arent limited to just some college graduates. In a sense, you could say what we are experiencing now is one of the perils of becoming a high tech service oriented society. Industrial jobs need people, but you have to work hard. That isnt in fashion for a lot of people. College has a place, but it isnt everything. I think it was sold as the promised land, just like home ownership before that market crashed. Eventually our educational system is going to crash as well. I think the housing market was the big get rich scheme for lenders and now student loans are. Soon it will be carbon credits and the whole global warming economy. There are companies making lots of money on these things and regardless of our intentions we play into their games. nbcnews/#/news/education/college-worth-it-new-documentary-weighs-costs-higher-ed-n129991
