There is a newer disorder that is termed borderline or volatile personality disorder. Many have run into this, but arent sure what its all about. I personally think we are producing this in our society with the practices being taught of ignoring someone we dont like, and specifically trying to get others to do the same. The dynamic is particularly prevalent in places or people who practice something termed church discipline where whole groups of people are instructed to ignore somebody or shun somebody who a central figure deems has done something against God. The idea presented is to treat him or her as a pagan or tac collector. The reality is that in Matt. 18, where this idea coerced from, the term treat is not even present, and the practice of shunning was ironically a Greek practice such as was going to be administered to Socrates for teaching about one God to the youth of his day. The instruction is supposed to guide someone to bring the person that cheated them in some manner (typically in some business deal), and which they couldnt work out a reconciliation, to the Ekklesia or before the society for exposure and then for justice. The twist however has been in the use of the teaching pulpit in churches, as a replacement of the whole community or Ekklesia, to guide congregations in shunning people a few or singular group trying to maintain control, want to take out in a kind of social mafia technique, using a form of religious scandalization as a strategy to do so. Weak personalities, or people with character issues relating often to unresolved childhood trauma, and particular those that tend to have issues that compel them to attempt to dominate others, will use the power of the pulpit to control or guide people to the practice of ignoring someone who they deem a threat to the satisfaction of their need. Often times, as people flow creates cash flow, there are also public credibility and monetary issues attached that the power person feels threatened by, that will compel either public deception or the intentional scandalization of a person deemed a threat to the person needing the power. These practices being modeled by supposed leadership, then get translated into personal relationships, causing the repeat of the behavior, with people running around excommunicating people they dont like, feel threatened by or specifically want to hurt in some manner, again usually tied to unresolved childhood trauma or issues. With church leadership moving away from decent exposition of the scriptural base of these things, and real examination of the Ekklesia or Greek city state dynamic being replaced by personal philosophy and interpretation, the people get misguided and unfortunately are today being encouraged in a growing disorder that is termed in the DSM IV as a personality disorder called Borderline or volatile personality disorder. Again, basically showing up in intricate deceptions that have a central control figure, or in intentional scandalization or undermining of a person targeted as a threat. This disorder often creates havoc in relationships that should otherwise be able to work through issues or crisis in integrity, causing a disintegration of trust in even whole families or communities of people if allowed to perpetuate. The remedy is relational integrity or integration, which is the word for holiness which reduces the coercive power of the pulpit or central figure in a persons life and compels them to both do their own study, to see better the real context of things, as well as to maintain personal integrity in relational regard with each relationship they have or develop.
