There is a photo on facebook of a dog that froze to death after trying, unsuccessfully, to chew their way out of the travel crate in which they were dumped. There have been thousands of shares, so Im certain you know the picture of which I speak. Dying from hypothermia is scary and lonely. Limbs become dead weight with no feeling. Organs stop functioning. The blood flow slows to nonexistent, and then the being just stops. The death itself is peaceful, but the point leading to death is painful and terrifying. Id like to bring your attention to a different cruelty. The result is the same. Fear, loneliness, pain and death. It is what happens when a rescue is not researched and still allowed to pull animals out of shelters. A rescue who does not have a 501c3 because it was revoked years ago. A rescue that has no plan to home these animals. Only to board them until the animal becomes so crazed from the 24 hour barrier of a cage, that they are finally and peacefully put to death. A rescue who begs and pleads for donations for medical care, and yet the dogs receive none. We as compassionate people must take a look around and do something. Chances are if something does not look, sound or feel right, its wrong. If you see something, say something. To allow cruelty and neglect to continue, to even advocate for the rescue to help because anything is better than the shelter, is animal cruelty. There are fates far worse than death. Existing with no hope, no end in sight is worse than a humane death. SPEAK UP. Get mad. But dammit. DO SOMETHING.
