There is a popular lie which states that people never change, and you cant change people. I am not the narrow-minded, over-confident, short-sighted youth I once was. I am not as selfish as before. My experiences DO change me, as do the people who pass through my life, as THEIR words and actions mold my consciousness. And because I have changed before, I believe I will change again; am changing now. But I cannot tell you who I will become, or how that person will view the world, nor what actions he will take. So I dont pretend to understand others who cannot fully understand themselves. I give them the benefit of the doubt, and a second chance. I believe we CAN affect each other in profound ways, leading to change that is ultimately within oneself. But beneath this change, and perhaps the source of our oversimplified adage, is the essential ME, ones soul or essence, the unbroken thread of consciousness that has existed from the start. When one says people never change, and you cant change people, they are describing this universal aspect of humanity that makes us all fundamentally equal, deserving of life and opportunity, love, respect, and a fair chance to atone for the past. Tomorrow is a new day and a clean slate. Choice is ours to continue in the habits of character, or take action to improve oneself, whatever that entails. #change #growth #evolution
