There is a rather strong cultural norm out there that says you should never talk about religion and politics. So youre telling me that something that has a profound influence on billions of peoples lives should never be discussed?? I think the underlying subtext is here is that we should just accept whatever control mechanisms the power elite gives us without discussing it and without even thinking about it. Of course this rule is wrapped inside the justification that we never risk offending anyone. But why not? If you bring up this subject and someone takes offense to it, is that your problem or theres? We need to allow space in our society to allow for such discussions. For how else can we grow and learn as a society (including learning how to discuss difficult subjects) if we sweep all such matters under the rug of taboo topics, where they lie stillborn in our subconscious? So go ahead, take a great leap forward: dare to discuss religion and politics - and let the chips fall where they may.
