There is a significant case that is before the Wisconsin Supreme Court that challenges the voter I.D. Law. The Governor and Republicans want to argue that the law is needed to keep voter fraud from happening. But there are no real and hard and fast numbers that would warrant such a law. The real issue here is a law that is meant to frustrate and discourage African-Americans in particular from exercising a right that a good many people both black and white gave their lives for. There is a historical memory here that shapes both my suspicion and my resistance to a voter I.D. bill. I applaud the cases that are before the courts. If the court strikes down this law this will be a great victory for all freedom loving people. It will also be a victory for the Constitution.
