There is a tacit note of disrespect in this song! While Im a big fan of Romeo Santos the underlying message here is that Hispanics/Latinos i.e. Spanish speaking people in general need assistance (Spanish illiterate society) for them to assimilate into American culture. This implication is both condescending and counterproductive. Did Italians, Jews, Irish, Germans, Polish, the Dutch, Japanese, and Chinese need language assistance? Heck no, and these people did it on their own and are doing fine since (as matter of fact Jews and Japanese are amongst the higher US median household income earners). Having Spanish as the secondary official or accepted language of the United States implies that Hispanics are too stupid, lazy, and inept to assimilate on their own. To the second point of being counterproductive, Hispanics (people of Mexican and central American descent) have been in America just as long if not longer than other American minorities yet they (Hispanics) continue to trail behind in most socioeconomic metrics - income, education, voting participation, private equity (housing, stocks, bonds, etc). The main reason is due to Spanish immersion and accommodations at the federal, state and local level - Spanish translators, Spanish assistance in K-12 education, affirmative action, etc. Why would people assimilate if you give them every reason not to? This makes absolutely no sense. Word up Oren Pardes
